The Bombers led at every change in the round 13 match at the Cobden Community Bank Recreation Reserve to run out convincing 12.15.87 to 7.6.48 winners.

“It was a great win, it was nice to play on a nice day after what’s been about four weeks of rubbish weather,” Cobden coach Brody Mahoney said.

“It was good to actually play proper footy in good conditions.”

The Bombers got off to a great start, kicking five goals to one in the first quarter.

“We’ve put a big emphasis on our starts, especially in the recent wetter weeks with the unknown around what the rest of the day is going to bring.

“We were able to execute our game plan and then play the way we wanted to play and control the footy, it was just a great day.”

Joe Hutt was best for Cobden in the win.

“Joey has been in super form, and he and all our backs in general were fantastic, they managed to get a lot of it themselves, also do their role and defend super well which is the big emphasis we’ve been putting on the boys just to simplify things over the last few weeks while it’s been crappy weather.

“Just to nut out the basics of defensive work and actually beat your opponent, and they did that and some; most of the backs ended up with nearly 20 or more touches.”

Gus Walsh’s game on former Cobden and now dominant Hamilton ruckman Levi Dare also drew praise from Mahoney.

“Gussy probably played three quarters of the game in the ruck with big Mickey (Koroneos) chipping in against Levi who still had more hitouts but the boys managed to nullify his hitouts and get a few touches themselves.

“It was pivotal in the win; Mickey coming in for his five minute bursts made it hard for Levi to have an easy time in the ruck.”

This week the Bombers head to Bushfield to take on the undefeated North Warrnambool.

“It’s a massive challenge but we take positives in that, the last time we played them, we were actually up early in the last quarter.

“The negative I guess was that they managed to get a roll on and beat us by eight goals in the end, but we know that we can match them for large periods of time, we just need to do it for a little bit longer.”

The reserves match saw Cobden record a strong 8.8.56 to 2.7.19 victory.

Best for the Bombers in their 10th win of the season were Sam Darcy, Lachlan Rosolin and Josh Hickey, with Rosolin and Hickey kicking three goals each.

In the under 18s, Hamilton scored an 11.13.79 to 2.1.13 win.

Micah Darcy, Darnel Nguena and Lennie Walsh were the Bombers best, with Nguena and Cooper Unwin kicking a goal each.

In the under 16s at Hamilton’s Melville Oval on Sunday, the home team scored a 9.19.73 to 4.3.27 win.

Samuel Robertson and Xander Weel were best for Cobden, with Fletcher White kicking two goals.

Hamilton scored a 13.7.85 to 0.1.1 win in the under 14 football.

Fletcher White, Koddah Couzens and Tristan O’Connor were best for the Bombers in the loss.

In the under 12s, Hamilton was also too strong, running out 11.5.71 to 0.1.1 winners.

Anderson Pekin, Joshua Fleming and Braxton Srdoc were the junior Bombers best.
