Batting first, Bookaar posted 8/296 from its 50 overs.

After the early loss of Eddie Lucas, father/son combination Simon and Paddy Baker put on 89 for the second wicket before a middle order collapse saw the Pelicans at 5/149.

“The Baker’s put on a really good partnership,” Bookaar captain Lachie Green said.

“Paddy is hitting the ball well and does his role of putting the pressure back on the bowlers really well.”

With plenty of time to still bat, experienced duo Green and Tim Fitzgerald combined for a 107 run sixth wicket partnership.

“We’d lost too many wickets by the 25th over so Timmy and I had to work hard to build a partnership.

“We got to the 40th over and were then able to really start attacking.”

Green made 54 from 69 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes, while Fitzgerald remained unbeaten on 78 from 81 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes.

“It wasn’t a bad score but we knew we probably needed more against Colac.”

The Stallions came out blazing, with opener Will Ruddell smashing 77 from 45 balls, including five sixes.

Cullan Spence finished things off, also hitting five sixes on his way to 116 not out from 86 balls as Colac chased down the Pelicans score in the 46th over for the loss of four wickets.

“Ruddell came out and just cleared the fence for fun, while Spence hit the ball extremely well.

“We gave chances to both, our fielding in general was a bit off, in general our bowlers didn’t bowl badly.”

Despite the loss, Green was positive.

“It was a great game of cricket with nearly 600 runs.

“It was a bit of a reality check, but they’re a really good team.”

Bookaar will start tomorrow’s Twenty20 knockout competition with a match against Ecklin at Frederick St.
