Cats shine
MORTLAKE are in a good position after day one of their round seven Warrnambool Moyne District Cricket Association match at Merrivale.

Winning the toss, Mortlake sent the home team into bat, bowling Merrivale out in the 55th over for 137.
Theo Opperman played a lone hand for the home team, making 67 from 87 balls.
Off-spinner Kalhan Sineth was exceptional, taking 5/11 from 14.5 overs, including eight maiden overs.
Veteran Clinton Baker returned to Mortlake’s top team after a five wicket haul in the championship division last week, and was back to his best with 4/29 from 12 overs.
At stumps Mortlake were 2/44, losing the wickets of Adam Atwood and Charlie Mahncke.
Will Kain will resume on day two on 30, with Baker on eight.
In the championship division, day one of Mortlake’s match against Merrivale at the DC Farran Oval was washed out and will now be played as a one day game this week.
In the division three game at JJ Colledge Oval, Mortlake had a nine wicket loss to Port Fairy.
Batting first, Mortlake made 147, all out in the 40th over.
Corey Rounds top scored with 60 from 82 balls, hitting six boundaries, with Jake Tanner making 37.
Port Fairy lost only one wicket on their way to passing Mortlake’s score in the 29th over.
In division three this week, Mortlake will host Hawkesdale at the Mortlake College Oval.
On Sunday, Mortlake had a 44 run loss to Dennington in round seven of the women’s competition.
Dennington made 3/159 batting first at the Dennington number two oval.
Wynter Bradbury was the best of the bowlers with 2/16 from five overs.
Mortlake made 6/115 from its 25 overs in reply.
Bradbury rounded out a strong all round game with 60 retired from just 42 balls, hitting six fours and four sixes.
Jezamin Oelfke was the only other player to make double figures with 16.
This Sunday the Mortlake women will host Wangoom at the DC Farran Oval.
Day one of the under 17 game on Tuesday saw Dennington post 6/85 from 45 overs at Mortlake College.
Mason Barr led the Mortlake/Cobden bowling with 3/11 from eight overs.
In the under 15s at Hughes Oval, Raiders/Nirranda made 3/75 from 27 overs on day one.
Isaac Lawlor and Riley Stephens took a wicket each for Mortlake/Cobden, with the match set to continue this Friday.
