CFA to tour Camperdown
CAMPERDOWN’S Country Fire Authority (CFA) brigade is packing lolly bags in preparation for their annual lap of the town, which will look a bit different this year.
A highlight of the year for the brigade, this year’s lap will take place on Sunday, December 21 from 10am-3pm.
Camperdown CFA community safety coordinator Sarah Blair said the brigade wanted to give Santa a bit of a break this year as a number of events were held around the same time.
“The plan is to stay in the truck and then drive the truck around the north and south sides of the town, ringing the bell and sounding the sirens so people can hear us coming,” she said.
“We thought we’d make it a bit easier by going to people rather than them coming to us or to a designated point this year.
“Hopefully that’s helpful to the parents during such a busy time, but it’s always good to see the kids rush out and they’re always so excited.
“It’s such a wholesome activity for the brigade.
“We’re looking forward to handing out lots of lollies – we’ve ordered a lot from the local lolly shop, so our volunteers will be putting those bags together over the coming weeks.”
Ms Blair said the brigade was hoping to see more children able to catch Santa during the trip.
“We think by spacing it out we’ll get to see a few more kids,” she said.
“In previous years with Carols, there were a lot of people getting ready and heading down there.
“We’ve got the fire danger period, so the main message is for people to have a safe Christmas.
“If you’re not sure what you can and can’t do over the fire danger period, you can head to the website or reach out to us through Facebook – we’re always happy to answer questions about community safety.”
