The meal, marked the end of the year for the weekly community meals. Residents enjoyed Christmas bon-bons, carols and an opportunity to connect with others.

Community Meal coordinator Jennine Harrison said the attendance for this year’s event was fabulous.

“It’s up from last year, so we’re really happy,” she said.

“Hopefully they’ve all enjoyed themselves.

“There was plenty of singing, raffles and catch-ups.

“It’s a nice time to connect and celebrate the start of Christmas.

“Some people don’t have Christmas, so this is their Christmas.”

The meal was prepared by the community meal’s A-Team, assisted by Reverend Matthew Jones, Corangamite Shire Council mayor Cr Kate Makin and deputy mayor Cr Laurie Hickey.

Residents enjoyed a meal of roast chicken, turkey and ham with roast potatoes, carrots, beans and peas, followed by a plum pudding with custard or a pavlova.

Everyone who attended received a lolly bag, while 30 attendees took home a lucky door prize.

Ms Harrison said the community meals team was always looking for more volunteers to help cook during the school terms, with meals being served every Wednesday.

“If there are any young mums who have a few hours to spare, they can come down and cook a meal,” she said.

“It’s not hard – we’re here to help and guide them.

“We can show them what people cook every week.
