Terang and Mortlake Health Service (TMHS) hosted the Farmer and Family Fun Night last Friday evening.

The evening included representatives from the health service, Ambulance Victoria and Let’s Talk Foundation who provided support such as health information, checks with a registered nurse, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation demonstrations and snake bite education.

There was also no shortage of fun with there being plenty of entertainment including a barbecue dinner, a visit from Santa, kid-friendly games and activities and drinks available for purchase.

TMHS health promotion officer Michelle Dowden said the evening had proven such a success it could make a return next year.

“There were approximately 60 people in attendance during the evening, ranging in age from young children to older adults,” she said.

“There was strong interest in the snake-bite care demonstration, the defibrillator and CPR presentations and basic health checks.

“Let’s Talk Foundation also provided important information on mental wellbeing for farming families.”

Ms Dowden said one of the highlights of the night was the gumboot throwing and the tug-of-war activities on the oval, which proved a hit with some of the event’s younger attendees.

“The region has a long and proud history of tug-of-war, and the health service is looking to make this Family Fun Night an annual event,” she said.

“Get your gumboot-throwing arm ready and your tug-of-war skills honed for next year.”
