Cultures combine
A VARIETY of cultures from across the Corangamite Shire and beyond came together last Saturday for a special multicultural Christmas party.
The night saw a variety of traditional foods shared around, with all attendees bringing plates of their favourite foods from their culture.
Live music was also provided, ranging from bands to single musicians providing some festive cheer.
Organiser Charmaine Uy said the Christmas party saw strong support despite the time of year.
“We expected a few more but we understand that everyone’s busy doing all their work and end of year break up parties at the same time, but overall we were happy with it and I believe everyone else was too,” she said.
“We had Filipinos from around the area – we even had some come from Colac and Geelong.
“We also had a couple plus a separate lady from Singapore and another couple that are here now, but their background is Chinese, and her husband is English.
“Everyone had a good night – they were well fed, everyone joined in the games, presents all around, and people were even happy to come up on stage and showcase their talents and sing a few songs impromptu style, so it was great.
“We even got some last-minute donations and had raffle prizes well over $1000 worth, which was amazing.”
