Division one bowlers climb ladder

COBDEN’S midweek division one pennant bowls side has climbed up to sixth position on the ladder after defeating Simpson 79-54 last weekend.


Trevor Roberts, Sue Couch, David Childs and Brian Howard achieved the biggest winning score defeating A. Swayn, T. Harris, L. Costin and L. Neale 33-18.

Ann Scott, Kath Spokes, Loreign Andrews and Bazil Hammond achieved a draw with M. Seabrook, B. Newcombe, C. Dixon and M. Gass, 21-all.

Janelle Rohan, Bert Strampel, Geoff Ovens and Doreen Coverdale also had a win, defeating P. Inglis, R. Yendall, Y. Laird, and A. Beasy 25-15.

In division three, Cobden maintains fourth position despite a disappointing loss, going down by one shot to the Camperdown Magpies, played in Camperdown.

P. James, G. Weller, V. Coverdale and D. Noonan lost 24-25 to Joy Beaton, Paul Dwyer, Evelyn Grayland and Pam Savage.

N. Weller, R. Bourke, P. Scott and W. Henry also lost a close match 19-21 against Leon Carrigan, Ken Coverdale, David Luker and Ann Coverdale.

M. Stephens, C. Wilson, R. Skene and K. Banks won 21-17 over Colin Spokes, Claire Reynolds, Des Couch and Colleen Johnson to tip the scale in Camperdown’s favour.

With very pleasant conditions for the weekend pennant, Cobden’s division two side dropped a place to fourth despite having a win against City 2, 95-84.

Darren Mulgrew, Brendan Hammond, Peter Richardson and Mitch Reed went down 22-25 to D. Tebble, P. Howard, S. Hickey and K. Graham.

Noah Mungean, Kathryn Robertson, Ash Sinnott and Murray Williamson had a good win 33-22 over R. Copeland, A. Bamford, D. Cowan and R. Tebble.

Nick Kemp, Greg Rooke, Terry Beasley and Tom Robertson were unlucky to lose 22-24 to T. Bartlett, B. Whittaker, G. Robbins and T. Moore.

Michael Hickey, Colin Hammond, Sam Thow and B. Hammond defeated L. Inglis, D. Lawrence, S. Kirby and V. Brown 18-15.

In division three, Cobden redeemed themselves, climbing from sixth to fourth on the ladder with a clean sweep of wins over Camperdown Magpies 4 at Cobden.

Ann Scott, Garry Matheson, Clair Reynolds and Don Anderson won 19-14 over R. Absalom, J. Salau, P. Atchison and B. Noonan.

David Staggard, Leon Carrigan, Colin Spokes and Brian Howard won easily, defeating P. Brebner, J. Molan, S. Whytcross and G. Broderick 26-14.

Janelle Rohan, Brendan Hutt, Richard McVilly and Lachie Taylor scraped in 19-18 over D. Page, S. Lucas, I. Wyles and P. James.

Trevor Roberts, Janine Hutt, Kath Spokes and Kevin Rundle won 22-17 over T. Hose, P. Halloran, D. Noonan and D. Watts.

In division four, Cobden remains in sixth place after suffering a loss (48-66) at the hands of second placed Colac 4 at Lakes on the outside green.

M. Middleton, G. Turner, N. Quigley and B. Hunt won 27-14 over Paul Dwyer, Ken Farquharson, Des Couch and Barry Morgan.

A. Dudley, N. Thompson, B. Dudley and T. Jackson won 23-17 over Joy Beaton, Evelyn Grayland, David Luker and Loreign Andrews.

J. Barrow, T. Ryan, P. Halliday and J. Whitson were defeated by Pat Hickey, Doreen Coverdale, Jeff Hester and Bill Johnson 16-17.

There is one round left before the Christmas break in both midweek and weekend pennants.
