Give back this Christmas

CAMPERDOWN’S V/Line service has teamed up with Simpson and District Community Centre and Camperdown and District Community House to help spread joy this Christmas.

Two donation points have been operating at the Camperdown Railway Station on Longmore Street for the past few weeks, with one for Christmas gifts and one for non-perishable food items.

Simpson and District Community Centre coordinator Debbie Smith said she was pleased to be part of the initiative.

“It’s a fantastic initiative,” she said.

“I think there should be more organisations like this supporting the community.

“It’s great.”

V/Line Camperdown services officer Drue Swartz encouraged residents to continue making donations.

“At V/Line, we’re passionate about supporting the communities we serve, and we are pleased to be able to assist with this Christmas appeal,” he said.

“We encourage everyone to support this appeal and drop off gifts at Camperdown Station.

“Your donation can make a big difference to someone in need.”

Camperdown and District Community House coordinator Emily Mercer said V/Line had previously run a Christmas appeal at the Camperdown station.

“We are very fortunate to be connected, alongside our sister Neighbourhood House in Simpson, to this campaign and honoured to be responsible for disseminating the food, goods and gifts donated by our wonderful community to those in need,” she said.

“Christmas can be a very stressful time of year, and with the cost of living pressures only rising, it is so fantastic that as a community we are pulling together to make sure that we are able to take the pressure off for some.

“Corangamite Foodbank is a service we provide for all residents of Corangamite, and any food or cash donations go a long way to make sure we can add a little bit extra to food hampers going out before the end of the year.

“We can’t thank V/Line and the Camperdown Station team enough for their hard work and support with this campaign.”
