Inaugural artist of the month
CORANGAMITE Arts have begun their monthly focus on their member artists, with Ellie Blackney serving as the inaugural artist of the month.

Corangamite Arts president Sue Hollingsworth said she hoped to showcase the work of one of the members each month.
“There are some people who are too shy to show their work, so it’d be great to get them out of their shells and we can all see what they can do,” she said.
“It’s good for the public to see what we do.”
Ms Blackney’s primary focus for art is origami and puppet-making, both of which led to intricate works.
She said she has also been working on collages and creating dolls.
“Origami’s a good challenge to find harder and harder things to make,” Ms Blackney said.
“I like the mindfulness of the folding and that you get something really cool when you finish.
“I also like the story of the crane – where you can get a wish if you make 1000.
“I have made puppets as well – I’ve just finished making a giant bird.
“I look at puppets and think ‘I can make that’ and I’ve made about 30 puppets all up, including people and animals.”
Among Ms Blackney’s works is a papier mache hat made for a fashion parade in another studio, featuring a number of origami cranes hung on the brim with fishing wire.
Ms Blackney said she hoped people would enjoy her works during the month, which will be on display at the Corangamite Arts shed throughout the month.
Ms Hollingsworth encouraged residents to visit during the weekly sessions on Thursday from 10.30am-2.30pm to view the works.
Residents are urged to enter the Camperdown Showgrounds through the gate at 2 Leura Street.
