Increasing awareness of making fire plans
LISMORE’S Country Fire Authority (CFA) brigade hosted a special workshop to help residents create and update their fire safety plans last Sunday.

CFA South West’s Lucy Richardson led the event, which was held at the Lismore brigade’s headquarters.
Among key topics were the importance of making a fire plan, risk factors which can impact residents and their plans, and how a grassfire – which is the most likely type of fire faced by Lismore residents – behaves.
Lismore CFA captain Sanjan Dawson said, while only a small crowd attended, it was good to see the community ensuring they were prepared for the upcoming fire season.
“It was really good to have a few community members come and listen because the district’s pretty dry, and we’re going into another hot summer,” he said.
“We’re just hoping people took away information about planning.
“We hope they went home and had a think about how they can get their fire plan ready for summer, start thinking about whether they’re going to stay or go on those days and what items they’re going to pack and where they are.
“We also want them to make sure their properties are clean and defendable if they’re going to stay.”
Mr Dawson said the brigade plans to host another workshop next year but urges residents to reach out any time if they have any concerns.
“If residents have any concerns or queries, they can reach out to their local brigades,” he said,
“We’re more than happy to help anyone where we can.
“It’s always good to stay informed and stay alert.
“Stay up to date with the latest information over summer and, when you do see these sessions come, it’s always a good day and worth coming to.
“Fire plans are not something you create and forget – it’s an ongoing document you need to update regularly.”
