Lakers look for consistency
CAMPERDOWN’S cricketers head to the Birregurra Recreation Reserve tomorrow for their first taste of the new Colac-South West premier competition.
“There’s a lot of unknowns coming into the season,” Camperdown captain coach Steve Fisher said.
“We’ll wait and see how it goes, it will be interesting to see how it shapes up.”
Fisher was pleased with the Lakers’ pre-season.
“We’ve had a large variety of players from all teams training which has been great.
“We had some good indoor sessions at Mortlake before moving outside more recently.”
Camperdown expect to field three recruits in the round one game, with returning fast bowler Nick Frith, all-rounder Gurwinder Singh who has crossed from Derrinallum and West Warrion all-rounder Jordan Keast expected to line up.
Fisher added that the Colac teams won’t be a complete mystery, with Keast offering insights from his many seasons in the Colac competition and star batter Jye McLaughlin having also having had a stint at the Warrion CC.
The biggest area of improvement Fisher expects to see from the Lakers is consistency.
“Improving our consistency is a big one,” he said.
“Last season we had four to five changes nearly every week, we are looking at having a more settled line-up which will help solve most of our problems.”
