Maintenance works this week began on a stretch of road on the Princes Highway, at the eastern entrance to Terang between Littles Lane and Dalvui Lane, which for months has proven problematic for drivers.

Western District Newspapers contacted the Department of Transport and Planning last Thursday with questions surrounding the stretch of road before maintenance works began on Monday, October 13.

Questions included when the road was last assessed and what the result of the assessment had been, if maintenance works were planned and if complaints regarding the stretch had been raised with the department.

In response, Department of Transport and Planning executive director Barwon South West and Grampians Michael Bailey said the stretch of road had been inspected weekly.

“Our crews conduct weekly inspections of this stretch of the Princes Highway and conduct routine maintenance as required,” he said.

“We’re continually monitoring and inspecting our network to ensure that our roads are safe for the thousands of drivers who rely on them each day.

“We’re building stronger and smoother roads right across regional Victoria with our $976 million Better Roads Blitz.”

Western District Newspapers understands the Department of Transport and Planning manages more than 23,000 kilometres of road network, which is inspected regularly to ensure compliance with the Road Management Act.

Drivers and the community are encouraged to report any concerns with the road network on 13 11 70.
