Magpies competitive against strong opposition
CAMPERDOWN Magpies Bowling Club’s division one pennant team travelled to Winchelsea last Friday night to take on the locals – along with two international players.

The team came home with a 20 shot loss, 82-102.
Aaron Winchelsea played with the home side.
Wilson reached a career-high world number six ranking in 2024.
They also had Jamie-Lee Worsnop who represented Australia on 56 occasions - both playing a one-off game for the club.
Winchelsea jumped the Magpies early and went out to a 25 shot lead but once the Magpies settled, they controlled the margin and got themselves back in the contest.
Brad Errock’s rink of Jamie Norton, Daniel Langdon and Taj Merrett took on Aaron Wilson’s team and although beaten 24-36 they handled the occasion with great merit.
Ron Cameron’s rink of Craig Skene, Kel Rundle and James Henry played well all night to just go down to Vince Chapman’s rink 19-20.
Luke Wright’s rink of David Bateman, Len Searle and Kell Edwards were also in their match all night, going down 19-21 to Max Heaton-Harris’ rink.
Matty Brewer’s rink of Chris Pearson, Barry Atchison and Jack Paase was defeated by Rhys Jeff’s rink 20-25.
The Magpies can take a lot of credit for the way they performed during the game and now know they can mix it with Winchelsea on their home green and also without the international stars.
Tomorrow the Magpies return to Winchelsea to take on their number two team and should return to the winners’ list.

Camperdown Magpies division two (2) team continued its unbeaten season with a hard fought 93-83 win over Cobden.
Fred Salmon’s rink of Darren Coverdale, Maria Van Someren and Greg Edwards continued their great form with a 28-17 win over Darren Mulgrew’s rink.
Michael Brebner’s rink of Vicki Brebner, John O’Donohue and Brad Wilson continued their winning streak with a 23-15 win over Noah Mungean’s rink.
Paul Richard’s rink of John Molan, Greg Molan and Keira Johnston went down to Michael Hickey’s rink 19-28.
Peter Reilly’s rink of Andrew Anderson, Les Pearson and Greg Teal had the close one, tying with Nick Kemp’s rink 23-all.
Tomorrow division two (2) will take on Lorne and a win would see them consolidate top spot on the ladder.

Division two (3) continued their great form with a 115-85 win over Cressy at the Golf Green.
Ian Henderson’s rink of LudGungl, Kerry Henderson and Noelene Tolland had a 28-20 win over Neville Keating’s rink.
Graeme Chamberlain’s rink of Kevin Russell, Harry Van Someren and Ron Simcox played well to defeat John Spry’s rink 27-17.
Glenn Winsall’s rink of Mark Winsall, Daryl O’Donohue and Nic Salagari were the standout team again with a 40-18 win over John Nelson’s rink.
Stan Adeney’s rink of Algie White, Leanne Fitzgerald and Elaine Waterfall lost to John Carew’s rink 20-31.
Tomorrow Magpies (3) travel to take on Colac 2 and a win would see the Magpies edge closer to a top four position.

The Magpies division three team found the going tough last Saturday, going down to Colac 65-97.

Darren Page’s rink of Steve Lucas, Rene Wyles and Ray Bourke lost to Noel Paatsch’s rink 16-22.
Ron Absalom’s rink of John Salau, Sophie Pearson and Pam Atchison lost to Michael Coates rink 9-30.
Tom Hose’s rink of Paul Halloran, Gary Body and Donna Watts went down to Ross Jackson’s rink 20-24.
Tomorrow division three will travel to take on Cobden 2 who are just below the Magpies on the ladder so a close game is expected.

The Magpies division four team was at home to Cobden 3 and had their first win of the season with a thrilling 62-59 win.
Carol Wilson’s rink of Barney Dickson, Pat Scott and Xavier Crabbe had a good win over Joy Beaton’s rink 23-15.
Peter James rink of Gary Mitchell, Pip Robertson and Caroline Strampel went down to Claire Reynold’s rink 16-32.
Bert Sloetjes rink of Gordon Weller, Norman Weller and Andrew Whiteside played well to defeat Doreen Coverdale’s rink 23-12.
Tomorrow division four will travel to take on Colac 5 and can hopefully make it two in a row.

Division one midweek last Tuesday saw the Magpies at home to Colac Central.
They cemented second spot on the ladder with a 74-60 win.

Craig Skene’s rink of Fred Salmon, John O’Donnue and Kel Edwards had a close one, going down to Ian Johnson’s rink 22-23.
Maria Van Someren’s rink of Len Searle, Michael Brebner and Greg Edwards finished off the win with a 23-19 victory over Pauline Price’s rink.
Next Tuesday the Magpies will travel to take on Colac 2 who sit on the bottom of the ladder so a win by the Magpies would not surprise.

Division two mid-week travelled to take on second placed Lorne and unfortunately could not quite get the win, going down 68-69.
Ron Simcox’s rink of Les Pearson, Pam Atchison and Brad Wilson had a good win over Duncan Leckie’s rink 27-20.
Stan Adeney’s rink of Barry Atchison, Kerry Henderson and Noelene Tolland went down to Elizabeth Legg’s rink 20-23.
Barb Boyd’s rink of Rene Wyles, Donna Watts and Elaine Waterfall fell short to Marilyn Mackenzie’s rink, 21-26.
Next Tuesday division two will be at home at Golf to top of the ladder Cressy in what will be a tough encounter for the Magpies.

In division three the Magpies were at home to Cobden and managed to consolidate second spot on the ladder with a thrilling 64-63 win.
Peter James’ rink of Gordon Weller, Val Coverdale and Deb Noonan fell short against Joy Beaton’s rink, 24-25.
Norma Weller’s rink of Ray Bourke, Pat Scott and Wayne Henry went down to Leon Carrigan’s rink 19-21.
Marg Stephens’ rink of Carol Wilson, Ruth Skene and Kathy Banks were the stars of the day with a 21-17 win over Colin Spokes’ rink.
Next Tuesday division three travel to take on fourth-placed Colac City in what should be another close game.

In over 60s bowls last Tuesday the Magpies retained top spot on the ladder with a 45-39 win over Cobden.
David Coverdale’s rink of Kylea Dickson and Pip Robertson lost to David Staggard’s rink 17-25.
Graeme Chamberlain’s rink of Gerard Broderick and Barney Dickson had a 28-14 shot win over Gary Matherson’s rink.
