Magpies in upset win
CAMPERDOWN scored a big upset in round 13 of the Hampden League senior football competition, defeating fifth-placed Warrnambool by 50 points.

The Magpies led at every change to record a 15.11.101 to 8.3.51 win at the Leura Oval.
“It was a very pleasing win,” Camperdown coach Clinton Thomas said.
“We feel like we’ve been playing some good footy for a while now, we got that first win against Hamilton which was great, but Saturday was the first time we’ve actually strung four quarters together against a team that’s shaping up to be a challenger this year.”
Up by 29 points at the last change, a position the Magpies have been in a few times this season without going on to win, Thomas urged his team to forget the score and do the little things right.
“One of the things we’ve spoken a bit about is just to try and shrink the target, not get caught up in the scoreboard and the momentum of the game.
“It’s about one little thing that each of the boys can just focus on, and when you do get that win, make sure you recognise it, acknowledge it, bank the win and then repeat it; and if you do that enough times, your confidence and belief takes care of itself.”
Zach Sinnott was Camperdown’s best with a huge game, gathering 35 possessions including 20 kicks and 15 handballs as well as kicking a goal.
“Zach has been fantastic, we feel his ability to hunt that second and third possession around the clearance is very strong.
“His run and carry and ability to break lines is fantastic.”
Camperdown had a host of high disposal getters, with Wilba Cheeseman and Harry Sumner getting 28 each, Cam Spence, Dom Absalom and James O’Neil 26 each, Myles Sinnott 25, Matt Field 23 with Riley Arnold and Angus Gordon 22 apiece.
But Thomas was quick to add it was a full team effort.
“It was probably our players from 10 to 22 that were the biggest improvers.
“I just can’t think of anyone on the day that lowered their colours, I felt like we had winners across everywhere, whether it was down forward, in the midfield or up back.”
Tom Baker was lively up forward for Camperdown, kicking a match high five goals.
“Tom had a great game and was instrumental in making the most of the ball once it went into our forward 50, he was always dangerous.”
This week Camperdown takes on Koroit at Koroit.
The reserves match saw Warrnambool score a 17.8.110 to 5.2.32 win.
Scott Londregan, Ethan Coates and Hugh Gordon were Camperdown’s best in the loss, with Aidan Conheady, Alex Martin, Isaac McVilly, Jack Hookway and Nick Jones kicking a goal each.
Warrnambool had a big 126 point win in the under 18s, 19.19.133 to 1.1.7.
Charlie Londregan, Rory Cameron, Levi Cootesmith and Sam McConachy were best for the under 18 Magpies, with Rory Roberts kicking the lone goal.
The under 16 football at the Reid Oval on Sunday saw Warrnambool winning 16.8.104 to 4.5.29.

The under 14 game saw Warrnambool record a 14.7.91 to 6.1.37 win.

In the Open netball, Camperdown scored a tight 57-53 victory, their second win of the season.
“It was such a good win, it was a really tight contest all the way through,” Camperdown coach Jill Leader said.
“We’ve been known to have slumps during quarters that then allows teams to get away from us, and we remained consistent, we had four really strong, consistent quarters and, it was a really solid performance by the girls.”
Young star Piper Stephens was best on court and shot 35 goals.
“Every time Piper comes back into the Hampden league, she’s a stronger, faster, better player; she was actually amazing.
“Such an enjoyable player to watch and to coach, the rest of the team kind of rides on her coattails at the moment, so when she’s playing such exciting netball everyone else is up and around it as well.”
Nell Mitchell also returned to the Camperdown line-up, shooting 22 goals.
“We did miss Nell and having her back in and just having the double targets in attack made a massive difference.
“To have two goalers that are contributing that amount of goals between them is amazing.”
Leader said that to beat a top five team was fantastic for the morale of her young group.
“It gives us a lot of belief, we just haven’t had a consistent line-up, we haven’t had our eight best players consistently this year at all.
“We’ve had Piper away on national duties, Indi away on Rebels (football) duties and then with a couple of injuries, so it was just really nice this week to have our best eight back, if we’ve got our eight every week, we know can push these top teams.”
The division one netball also went the way of Camperdown who had a 43-39 win.
Isobel Sinnott, Macy Mahony and Isobel Marwood were best for Camperdown, with Kiara Love shooting 27 goals and Marwood 15.
