Mini-festival sees success

POOR weather didn’t dampen the spirits of many residents as they turned out in force for the Camperdown and District Community House Spring into Summer mini-festival.

Wet and windy weather meant the festival was held at the Theatre Royal complex this year, but many enjoyed the opportunity to come together and view locally-made crafts and get crafty with a variety of activities.

Camperdown and District Community House coordinator Emily Mercer said the mini festival was originally planned as a celebration of Apex Park.

“A combination of local growers, producers and makers, local garden knowledge and family fun filled activities, the festival was designed to celebrate community and explore sustainability in a localised and practical way,” she said.

“The first iteration of the mini-festival was to be November 30, 2024, but due to an incredible amount of rain – it felt like a few months’ worth in one day – we had to cancel the event.

“Unfortunately, the weather again did not permit us to hold the event in Apex Park as planned, but this time we had a wet weather option, the Theatre Royal and Old Stadium.”

Among the highlights were a variety of market stalls showing off local craft and food, food stalls just outside the theatre, craft activities from the Nature Bus and Merle Newling from the Community House and music performed by the Twa Bards.

“A huge thank you to everyone involved in putting on this event, especially the Corangamite Shire for supporting the event through its 2025 events and festivals grant,” Ms Mercer said.

“Thank you to everyone who came along on the day.

“Due to the weather, the event was a lot different from our original plan, but we all had a wonderful time and are grateful we were able to go ahead despite the rain.

“Due to the consistency of challenges posed by the weather at this time of year, we are looking to recalibrate and hold the event at a different time of year in the future.

“Watch this space.”
