The Terang Christmas Races are set to open the new season for the club on Tuesday, December 16 from 11am.

The day will feature an eight-race program which combines a bumper day of racing action with what the club hopes will be an opportunity for people to unwind after a long year.

“This is our first meeting for the year,” Terang Racing Club president Janice Harris said.

“We’ll have a traditional Christmas meal for $30 and hopefully we’ll get a few people attending.

“Mid-week races tend to be a bit quieter but hopefully we’ll get a few groups coming through and the races will be known as a great place for an end-of-year Christmas function in to the future.

“Hopefully this one will be a success which people talk about and want to come back to again.”

The event will mark the first for the club under the leadership of Ms Harris, who takes over from Shane Scally following the recent annual general meeting.

She said two events planned in just over two weeks to kick-start the season would position the club for what is expected to be a big year ahead.

“I’m proud of the Terang Racing Club,” Ms Harris said.

“We’re encouraging younger people to join because we’ve got two vacancies on the committee at the moment.

“We’re looking for people that are local, are committed to community groups and can get the word out there and promote things a bit more.

“This year we’ve got our New Years race on Friday, January 2 as the Terang and District Co-op Kid’s Day Out Races.

“We’re hoping that’ll be a big event leading into the weekend as lots of people come home for Christmas – it’s just another place people can meet, catch up with others and enjoy a day out.”

General admission to the Terang Christmas Races is $15 per person and umbrella packages are available from $270 with beverage and catering options also available.
