Pelicans ready for round one
BOOKAAR will commence its Colac-South West premier cricket campaign tomorrow with a game against City United at the Elliminyt Recreation Reserve.
“We’re super excited for the new competition,” Bookaar captain Lachie Green said.
“I think it’s the best thing for cricket in the region going forward, really looking forward to playing against different blokes and new teams.”
Green is very comfortable with the strong pre-season the Pelicans have put in.
“We’ve been training since the first week of August with indoor sessions at Mortlake and more recently outdoors.
“It’s been tricky with the number of footballers we have, but the buy in has been fantastic.”
Green said Bookaar would have some selection headaches for its opening round clash.
“We’ve got a full list to pick from so there will be some unlucky players.”
Bookaar’s list will remain similar for the 2025/26 season, with all-rounder Paddy Baker returning and Myles Sinnott moving to Geelong.
“We’re backing our system in and promoting our kids.
“It’s all about getting games into those young players and creating the right environment around the club.”
Green said the Pelicans were well versed on the Colac clubs they will be coming up against for the first time.
“We’ve got Louis Darcy, who works as a journalist in Colac, who is all over the clubs and their players.
“We’ll be well prepared, we’re ready to go.”
