Proposed changes
CORANGAMITE Shire Council is seeking community feedback on the proposed new Local Law.
Mayor councillor Kate Makin said council set local laws to address issues and protect the health and safety of the community.
“Local laws are regulations created by local government to manage community issues, promote safety, and protect public amenity and the environment,” she said.
“This review process ensures they remain relevant and effective.
“Our current general local law and livestock local law were adopted in 2015 and will expire on December 15.
“We are seeking community feedback on the new proposed Local Law 2025 to gain a better understanding of any current and emerging issues.”
Key changes include clarifying the definition of unsightly land and additional requirements of long grass on private property, addressing increasing number of cats and dogs in urban areas, clarifying permit requirements for other animals in urban areas, such as large birds and increasing flexibility for caravan occupancy on private land.
The documents and survey are available at conversations.corangamite.vic.gov.au.
The survey opened on Tuesday, October 14 and closes on Tuesday, November 11.
The proposed local law will be completed based on feedback received, and presented for adoption at the November Ordinary Meeting of Council.
