Rain halts play
ONLY 32 overs were possible in Pomborneit’s round eight Colac-South West premier division cricket match against Heytesbury-Princetown on Saturday.
Storm captain Matthew Love won the toss and elected to bat first in the match at the Timboon Recreation Reserve.
The Storm raced to 44 in the eighth over before Tharaka Sendanayake, who opened the bowling in his 100th game for Pomborneit, had Hamish Huffadine caught for 24 from 30 balls.
“Heytesbury-Princetown go hard early, and with rain around we gave Senda the new ball along with Roshane (Fernando),” Pomborneit captain Grant Place said.
“While he still went for a few, the pace off with him bowling still worked well early.”
The in-form Simon Harkness joined Love at the crease before Harkness was caught behind off the bowling of Gavin Reynolds for 14.
Three balls later, Reynolds dismissed Travis Brown for no score, caught at point by Tom Darcy to have the Storm 3/72.
Darcy was then introduced into the attack and kept things very tight.
Darcy bowled Tom Hunt for two then got the big wicket of Love, LBW for 41 from 81 balls to have the Storm 5/94.
When the rain hit, the home team were 5/103 from 32 overs, with no more play possible.
Reynolds ended with figures of 2/10 from six overs, while Darcy took 2/4 from six.
“Very disappointing to be washed out, we felt like we were right on top at the time.
“Tommy and Gav did a great job in both taking wickets and keeping things tight, both those boys are starting to contribute well with the ball and giving us more overs.”
