Rain interrupts play
MORTLAKE had its first loss of the season in the Warrnambool Moyne District Cricket Association division one premier competition on Saturday at the Mortlake College Oval.

In the match against Russells Creek, Mortlake batted first after winning the toss, making 7/207 from their 45 overs.
Opener Saman Gonawala top scored with 62 from 83 balls including five fours, with Kalhan Sineth also making a half century with 53 from 74 balls.
Sineth’s innings included two fours and three sixes.
Other contributions came from Jack Lehmann (30 from 36 balls) and Clinton Baker (26 not out from 23 balls).
In reply, Russells Creek batted solidly throughout, and when the rain hit in the 37th over the visitors were 5/173, 15 runs ahead of the Duckworth/Lewis par score of 158.
Craig Britten took two wickets, with one each to Clinton Baker, Todd Lamont and Charlie Mahncke.
This Saturday Mortlake will play Nestles at Wenborn Oval in Warrnambool.
Mortlake’s championship team started its season with a 74 run loss to Spring Creek at Woolsthorpe.
Batting first, the home team made 6/169 from their 45 overs.
Will Ruddle led the bowlers with 3/23, while Sonny Podger, on senior debut for Mortlake after crossing from the Warrnambool CC, was economical with his off-spinners, conceding just 19 runs from nine overs.

In reply, Mortlake was dismissed for 95 in the 42nd over.
Captain Stephen Blacker top scored with 32, with opener Cooper Herry the only other player to make double figures with 22.
This week Mortlake’s championship team will play Koroit at Victoria Park.
In junior cricket, the Mortlake/Cobden under 17 team lost to Merrivale at Mortlake College in a Twenty20 game on Tuesday night.
Batting first, the combined side made 8/103 from their 20 overs.
Arlo Herry with 18 and Elijah Bradbury with 16 were the top scorers.
In reply, Merrivale made 2/108 from their 20 overs to record the win.
Cameron Goddard took both Merrivale wickets, with 2/13 from two overs.
In the under 15 game on Friday night, Mortlake/Cobden had a 29 run win over Allansford/Panmure.
Allansford/Panmure batted first, making 7/62 from their 20 overs.
Mikey Benallack and Leo Slater took two wickets each for Mortlake/Cobden.
The home team batted well in reply, led by 30 from Sam Mahncke and 25 not out to Mikey Benallack in the team total of 4/91.
In this week’s junior games, the Mortlake/Cobden under 15s start a two day game on Friday night against Raiders/Nirranda at Deakin University, while the Mortlake/Cobden under 17s start a two day game on Tuesday against West Warrnambool at Deakin University.
