Recognising Eunice

PROGRESSING Cobden is proud to acknowledge and celebrate the exceptional contribution of Eunice Dawe, whose service to the Cobden Aerodrome Community Asset Committee has spanned more than two decades.

Representing Progressing Cobden on the committee from 2012 to 2025, Mrs Dawe has been a cornerstone of community effort, dedication and quiet achievement.

“Eunice has long been a driving force behind the aerodrome’s fundraising sub-committee,” Progressing Cobden secretary Kathryn Stubbings said.

“Together with her husband Jim, she raised calves annually and donated the proceeds – an act of generosity repeated year after year.

“Through raffles, concert nights and countless volunteer hours, Eunice has helped raise in excess of $200,000 for the aerodrome.

“These funds have directly contributed to vital improvements, including sealing of the runway, sealing of the taxiway to the patient transfer pad and installation of new fencing around the clubrooms and entrance.”

Over the years, the Cobden Airstrip has grown exponentially – now a thriving hub hosting fly-in days, community events, visitors from across the region and a critical patient transfer point.

Behind much of that progress has been Mrs Dawe, often working quietly in the background, greeting pilots and visitors on the tarmac, and even playing a key role in gathering petition signatures from visiting aviators in the campaign to prevent wind towers in the area.

“Eunice’s reports to Progressing Cobden were always thorough, informative and often delivered with a spark of joviality that reflected her warm community spirit,” Mrs Stubbings said.

“Her involvement extends far beyond the aerodrome – she has been active in the garden club, the orchid group, Pioneer Park and the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

“She organised and ran multiple Roonie Vincent Country and Western concerts, played piano, loved to dance and was renowned for her skill in running raffles and fundraising events.”

Mrs Stubbings said Mrs Dawe has had a lasting impact on the Cobden community.

“With approximately 25 years of involvement in establishing and supporting the Cobden Airport Committee, Eunice has truly been one of the Aerodrome’s ‘quiet achievers’ – or as many fondly say, ‘Saint Eunie’,” she said.

“Her dedication, generosity, and determination have left a lasting legacy.

“Thanks to her efforts, the Cobden Aerodrome remains a safe, functional, welcoming and vital community asset.

“On behalf of Progressing Cobden, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to Eunice Dawe for her remarkable contribution and enduring impact on our community.”
