Reduced over match for Cobden
A SECOND consecutive loss for Cobden cricketers in the Colac-South West premier competition, going down to Stoneyford by 15 runs.
The game at the Cobden Community Bank Recreation Reserve had a three hour delay and was reduced to 25 overs per team.
Stoneyford batted first and made 7/176, led by 99 from captain Dominic Dare.
“Dom batted really well and didn’t really give us a chance,” Cobden captain Johno Benallack said.
“He was probably the difference in the game.”
Eddie Walsh was the best of the Cobden bowlers with 3/38 from five overs, while Darcy Meade took 2/30 from five.
“The bowlers went for a few in that sort of game.
“Eddie continued his good form with the ball, Darcy just bowled nice and tight like he does.”
In reply, Cobden slumped to 3/11 before partnerships of 50 between Johno Benallack and Angus Uwland and 44 between Benallack and Eddie Walsh put the Knights back on track.
“It was just a sort of get bat on ball and keep rotating the strike sort of innings after losing those early wickets.
“The run rate got a bit much in the end and we kept losing wickets.”
Cobden was all out in the 23rd over for 161.
“It was a good game, we weren’t too disappointed, we’re still on the right track.”
This week Cobden host Bookaar at Cobden.
“It will be a big day, we have our ladies day on and Bookaar is always a big game.
“They are obviously flying, we think we match up well against them, especially on turf.”
In division two, Cobden had a 111 run win over Heytesbury-Princetown Purple at Timboon.
Captain Ash Rosolin top scored with an unbeaten 47 from 49 balls, with opener Jonty Robertson making 42 and Jack Hutt 41 as the Knights finished on 6/233.
Storm Purple could only manage 122 in reply, bowled out in the 34th over.
Blake Mottram took 5/28 from eight overs, taking the first five wickets to fall.
This week the division two Knights play Ecklin.
No play was possible in the division three match between Heytesbury-Princetown and Cobden at Princetown.
This week the division three Knights will host Pomborneit Maroon at the Timboon High School oval.
The under 16 match between Cobden and Pomborneit at Cobden on Sunday was also abandoned due to the weather.

In the under 13s, the Cobden v Camperdown game on Monday night was washed out.
