Saturday pennant to start tomorrow

CAMPERDOWN Magpies Bowling Club will commence the new Saturday pennant season tomorrow (Saturday) with five new-look teams hitting the greens.


Division one will be the only team playing at Thornton Street and they will face last year’s division two premiers, Winchelsea 2.

The Magpies will be keen to start the season off with a win and have picked a fairly strong line-up for the first game.

Rinks for Magpies 1 at Thornton Street tomorrow are:

Luke Wright (s), David Bateman, Len Searle and James Henry.

Matty Brewer (s), Ron Cameron, Barry Atchison and Jack Paase.

Craig Skene (s), Chris Pearson, John Molan and Greg Teal.

Brad Errock (s), Darren Coverdale, Jamie Norton and Taj Merrett.

David Bateman will be the manager.

The Magpies will have two teams in division two this season and tomorrow Magpies 2 will be away to Cobden while Magpies 3 will head to Cressy.

Rinks for Magpies 2 tomorrow at Cobden:

Fred Salmon (s), Leanne Fitzgerald, Kell Edwards and Greg Edwards.

Michael Brebner (s), Vicki Brebner, Harry Van Someren and Keira Johnson.

Maria Van Someren (s), Graeme Chamberlain, John O’Donohue and Brad Wilson.

Peter Reilly (s), Andrew Anderson, Greg Molan and Kel Rundle.

The manager will be Vicki Brebner and cars will leave Thornton Street at 11.15am.

Rinks for Magpies 3 tomorrow at Cressy:

Henry Henderson (s), Lud Gungl, Jim Boyd and Mick Mahony.

Stan Adeney (s), Les Pearson, Daryl O’Donohue and Noelene Tolland.

Chris McLeod (s), Kevin Russell, Wayne Henry and Ray Bourke.

Ron Absalom (s), Mark Winsall, John Salau and Nick Salagari.

The manager will be Wayne Henry and the bus will leave Thornston Street at 11am (driver Stan Adeney).

Camperdown Magpies division three team away to Colac 3 tomorrow (close match expected):

Tom Hose (s), Paul Halloran, Barney Dickson and Donna Watts.

Darren Page (s), Noel Brebner, Bert Sloetjes and Pip Roberton.

Paul Brebner (s), Brent Noonan, Pam Atchison and Debbie Noonan.

Steve Lucas (s), Gerard Broderick Max Rippen and Xavier Crabbe.

The manager will be Paul Brebner and the bus will leave Thornton Street at 11.45am (driver Steve Lucas).

The Magpies division four team at Cobden (a strong showing expected):

Gary Mitchell (s), Gordon Weller, M. Reale and Andrew Whiteside.

Carol Wilson (s), Norma Weller, Caroline Strampel and Sophie Pearson.

Peter James (s), Ton Vermaas, Ruth Skene and Kathy Banks.

Manager will be Carol Wilson and the cars will leave Thornton Street at 12 noon.

Midweek pennant started last Tuesday and the Magpies had mixed results on the day.

Division one travelled to Colac Central and came home with a seven shot win, 65-58, which was a great start to the season.

The rink of Craig Skene, Fred Salmon, John O’Donohue and Jane Molan had a 10 shot win, 25-15, on their rink.

Vicki Brebner’s rink of Peter Reilly, Henry Henderson and Ron Simcox went down by 13 shots, 15-28.

Maria Van Someren’s rink of Barry Atchison, Kel Edwards and Greg Edwards finished off the win with a 10 shot victory, 25-15.

Next Tuesday division one will be at home to Colac 2 and the home ground advantage should see a win to the Magpies.

Teams for next Tuesday are:

Maria Van Someren (s), Len Searle, Henry Henderson and Greg Edwards.

Peter Reilly (s), Barry Atchison, Vicki Brebner and Kel Edwards.

Craig Skene (s), Fred Salmon, John O’Donohue and Janet Molan.

Division two played Lorne at home and started the season with a 14 shot win, 84-70.

The rink of Brad Wilson, Tim Spokes, Pam Atchison and Ray Bourke won by six shots, 28-22.

The rink of Stan Adeney, Noel Brebner, Kerry Henderson and Noelene Tolland won 34-19.

Barb Boyd’s rink of Rene Wyles, Wayne Henry and Elaine Waterfall lost 22-29.

Division two will travel to Cressy next Tuesday and a close match is expected after both teams won last week.

Teams for next Tuesday are:

Brad Wilson (s), Tim Spokes, Pam Atchison and Ron Simcox.

Stan Adeney (s), Noel Brebner, Kerry Henderson and Noelene Tolland.

Barb Boyd (s), Rene Wyles, Wayne Henry and Elaine Waterfall.

The manager will be Barb Boyd and the bus (driven by Stan Adeney) will leave Thornton Street at 8.45am.

Division three travelled to Winchelsea and had a tough day, going down 28-79.

Marg Stephens rink of Steph Whiteside, Donna Watts and Kathy Banks lost 5-30.

Les Pearsons rink of Gordon Weller, Ruth Skene and Deborah Noonan went down 6-31.

Carol Wilson’s rink of Norma Weller, Pat Scott and Val Coverdale went down 17-18.

Division three will play Colac 4 at Thornton Street next Tuesday and will be hoping for a better day.

Peter James (s), Gordon Weller, Donna Watts and Ray Bourke.

Carol Wilson (s), Norma Weller, Pat Scott and Val Coverdale.

Marg Stephens (s), Les Pearson, Ruth Skene and Kathy Banks.

The manager will be Marg Stephens and Peter James’ team will be the duty team.

A reminder that on Saturday, October 25 all teams will play at Thornton Street and at Golf as this day will be ‘Pink Day’ – with the club raising funds for Breast Cancer.

As pink is the colour of care, all funds raised on the day will help to ensure more families have the care and support of a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse.
