Batting first, the Lakers got off to a flying start - openers Jye McLaughlin and Harry Sumner putting on 112 for the first wicket in 19 overs.

McLaughlin continued his great first half of the season with 86 from 78 balls, hitting 15 boundaries.

Sumner scored his season high of 37 from 64 balls.

“Jye has been hitting the ball well all year, he’s going out there and backing himself with a clear head,” Camperdown captain Steve Fisher said.

“It was good to see Harry get a few, he’s worked hard and looked good in the nets all season without having much luck on gameday.”

Fisher himself made an unbeaten 46 from 48 balls as the Lakers were bowled out for 246 in the 47th over.

“Very happy with putting a decent score on the board to defend, though it was a bit disappointing we didn’t bat out our overs.”

Apollo Bay got off to a strong start courtesy of opener Isaac Noseda, who made 54 from 44 balls.

“Noseda is a very good player, he batted incredibly well.

“We took the pace off the ball and the wickets started to fall.”

After quick James O’Neil was taken out of the attack, fellow opening bowler Sumner and returning Englishman John Reed ripped through Apollo Bay’s top order.

Sumner finished with 3/44 from 10 overs, with Reed taking 3/36 from 10.

“John really changed the game when he came on to bowl, he bowled tight lines and looked dangerous.

“He had a full on few days before the game arriving in Australia, he hadn’t picked up a bat or ball since September, he’s going to be a really big in for us.”

Another impressive performer with the ball for Camperdown was veteran off-spinner Shane Wilson, who took 2/12 from 10 overs.

“Wal (Wilson) just kept putting the ball in good spots and forced the batsmen to take risks.”

The Sharks were finally dismissed for 169 in the 42nd over.

“It was a pleasing effort, we defended really well.”
