Strong win on the road
THE road trip to Apollo Bay proved successful for the Pomborneit Gold women on Saturday, registering an 83 run win over the home team.

Gold captain Samantha Coxon won the toss and elected to bat, with the visitors posting 6/141 from their 25 overs.
After the early loss of Coxon, opener Tayla Reynolds made 22 from 33 balls, with Jess Moulden making 21 from 20 balls.
The middle order shined, with Nellie Sadler scoring 26 from 38 balls, and Jada Mahony retiring on 30 from 29 balls, hitting three boundaries as the sole player to retire.
“Tayla has been ultra consistent opening for us, she’s so steady yet still puts away the bad balls,”Coxon said.
“Jess has the ability to lift the run rate quickly, which she did well again on Sunday.”
Coxon praised the contributions of Sadler and Mahony in the final score.
“Nellie is batting with great confidence, while Jada is very hard to stop when she gets going.
“That pair kept the momentum going well.”
Reynolds and Coxon combined to have dangerous Apollo Bay openers Belinda Dear and Rebecca Firman dismissed in the first three overs to have the home team 2/4.
“We identified those two as players we wanted to contain, so it was fantastic to have them both back in the pavilion so early.”
Apollo Bay lost wickets at regular intervals and were dismissed for 58 in the 18th over.
Sadler took two wickets, while Mahony and Isabella Wain took a wicket each, with the team also getting three run outs.
“Everyone bowled well, but our fielding was as good as it has been all season.
“Two of the run outs were Tayla’s, she had a great game in all departments.”
This Sunday the Gold women play Tomahawk Creek at Irrewillipe in their final game before the Christmas break.

HEYTESBURY PRINCETOWN v POMBORNEIT
Heytesbury Princetown 5/103 (32) Pomborneit did not bat - ABANDONED
The Pomborneit Maroon women had a day to forget on Sunday, well beaten by Carlisle River.
Batting first at Pomborneit, Maroon were bowled out for just 29 in 11.2 overs, with no player making double figures.
“It was such a disappointing performance, our worst in a long time,” Maroon co-captain Debra Reynolds said.
“There were some really poor shots from our top order, plus a run out, though they did bowl very well early.”
Maroon took two early wickets, having the visitors at 1/2 and 2/12 before Carlisle River passed the meagre score three wickets down in the seventh over.
Carlisle River finished their 25 overs at 5/147.
Lilli Saarikallio was the most impressive of the Maroon bowlers with 1/18 from five overs straight with the new ball.
“Lilli is bowling as well as anyone in the competition,” Reynolds said.
“Her control with the new ball is fantastic and she rarely bowls a bad ball.”
Another teenager in Marissa Whitehead took her first wicket at senior level and finished with 1/30 from five overs.
“Marissa is developing as a spinner, she is a work in progress but getting better by the week.
“She did a great job against batters who were set, we were thrilled when she got her wicket.”
This week the Maroon women play Birregurra at Birregurra in their final game before the break.
