Tigers on a role

DERRINALLUM’S strong start to the season has continued with the Tigers winning their round two Grenville Cricket Association clash at Carranballac by seven wickets.

The home team batted first in the match played at the Carranballac Recreation Reserve, and were dismissed for 110 in the 33rd over.

“Our bowling was really good early, they had a good partnership through the middle then we were able to run through their tail,” a pleased Derrinallum captain Ned Uren said.

Khush Randhawa and Umer Qureshi led the way with three wickets each, with Randhawa’s new ball partner Hunter Thompson also gaining plaudits from Uren.

“Khush and Umer were again fantastic, while I thought Hunter bowled really well at the start without much luck, he bowled really tightly.”

Paul Brisbane also bowled tightly for his 2/12 from six overs, with a wicket each to Uren and Ben Carr.

The Tigers were largely untroubled in the run chase, passing the home team’s score three wickets down in the 32nd over.

“We started well with the bat, losing a couple of wickets to go from 1/64 to 3/64 was our only real hiccup.”

Uren, opening the batting, led the way with 35 from 46 balls, his innings including seven boundaries.

Paul Brisbane, with 29 not out from 63 balls and Dale Hose with an unbeaten 18 from 43, ensured the win for Derrinallum.

“Paul and Dale batted really well to relieve the pressure.

“Paul has played his role really well in both games with bat and ball, he’s had a really good start to the season.”

This week the Tigers host reigning premiers Haddon at Derrinallum.

“Haddon are the competition benchmark, it will be exciting to see how we match up.”
