The Tornadoes had travelled to Horsham on Saturday for a top-of-the-table blockbuster against the ladder-leading Mt Gambier Lakers.

The Lakers raced off to a fast start with a 30-12 opening quarter which included an 11-0 run.

The Tornadoes were able to flip fortunes in the second quarter, including a run of their own which saw them bounce back from a 41-20 deficit to get within three points (41-38).

But the resurgent Lakers were able to regain rhythm and carried a 49-38 lead into the main break.

That lead was never surrendered in the final two quarters, comfortably outscoring Terang and cruising to a comfortable victory.

Kyle Tipene (26 points) and Shaun Lock (22) proved an efficient duo and led the scoring for the Lakers, while Tyler Vickers (18) and Ryley Hutchins (10) were the only players to break double digits for Terang.

While dreams of earning the club’s first premiership were dashed, the foundations are well set for the young Terang Tornadoes squad to build heading into next season.
