Tough day for Dragons

BOORCAN’S division two team had a nine wicket loss to Pomborneit in the round eight South West Cricket Association match at South Purrumbete.

Batting first, Dragons’ openers Will Rowbottom and Cain Mahoney were extremely solid, putting on 76 before the first wicket fell in the 23rd over.

Rowbottom top scored with 37 from 76 balls, hitting three boundaries, while Mahoney made 33 from 63, hitting two fours.

Other contributions came from Luke Heffernan with 16 from 23 balls, and Jack Ryan with an unbeaten 22 from 39 balls as some tight bowling from Pomborneit saw the Dragons restricted to 6/141 from their 40 overs.

Pomborneit chased down Boorcan’s score relatively comfortably, passing the total in the 28th over for the loss of only one wicket.

Toby Fleming took the lone wicket, claiming Bulls captain Charlie Voutier LBW to finish with figures of 1/27 from four overs.

Boorcan goes into the break in fifth position and will play its next game on January 17.

The division three Dragons registered their first win of the season with a 77 run victory over Ecklin at Boorcan.

Batting first, Boorcan made 8/172, led by 61 to Michael Carman and 44 to Tony Hassett, the pair putting on a 100 run second wicket partnership.

In reply the Dragons dismissed the Frogs for 95, with Carman claiming 5/18 from five overs and Roger Horspole 2/7 from five.

Going into the Christmas break Boorcan sit in eighth place on the division three ladder and also resume on January 17.

Boorcan had the bye in the under 13s and will play their next match in that competition on January 19.
