The venue is a familiar one for Storm coach Matthew Love, who coached Stoneyford for three years before crossing to Heytesbury-Princetown for the 2024/25 season.

“I’ve still got good mates at Stoneyford and there’s already been lots of friendly banter,” Love laughed.

“It’s a big game, they’ve recruited well so we are expecting a tough contest.”

Stoneyford’s large list of recruits includes Boorcan all-rounder Henry Moyle and former Nestles captain Jacob Hetherington.

The Rattlesnakes will also have the services of Nigerian Twenty20 international quick Chiemelie Udekwe.

Love said Heytesbury-Princetown had had a strong pre-season and were ready to go.

“We had some weather interruptions but have still got plenty of sessions in, especially indoors at Mortlake.”

The Storm expect to have their big off season recruits all available for the opening round clash, with fast bowler Matt Price, batsman Simon Harkness and leg-spinning all rounder Tommy Illingworth all set to play.

“Matt Price has been bowling the house down, he’s super competitive even in the nets and bowling very quickly.

“Simon and Tommy have returned and will be fantastic additions.”

Love said the new competition format had grown on the playing group.

“The excitement has increased the closer we’ve gotten to the season.

“The concept will hopefully really benefit cricket in the area and give young players coming through a really good competition to keep playing in.”
