Two-game buffer for Bloods
TERANG Mortlake is now two games clear in second after a 60 point win over Port Fairy in Saturday’s round 13 Hampden League senior football match.

The Bloods got off to a strong start and held the ascendancy all day in the 18.9.117 to 8.9.57 win at the Gardens Oval.
“It was good to get out of the blocks, we weren’t taking them lightly because obviously they’d had a great month,” Terang Mortlake coach Lewy Taylor said.
“We knew we had to be on, and the boys were, you could tell straight away the boys were on, so that was good.”
Will Kain starred up forward for Terang Mortlake, kicking five goals.
“The ‘Kain Train’ was very good again, some of the weeks he hasn’t been scoring as much but he’s doing a lot of one per cent stuff watching the game back, which probably goes unnoticed a little bit, which is obviously helping the team.
“But yeah on the weekend it was his turn, he kicked five goals so that was pleasing and I’d say he’s building quite nicely, which is good.”
Taylor was happy to see others hit the scoreboard too, with Darcy Hutchins kicking four goals and Sam Kenna and Ryley Hutchins three each.
“Sam had a tough match up against (Port Fairy ruckman) Jake Bartlett, and then was able to kick a couple out of the rough too, which was pleasing, we’ve got the luxury of him going forward now at times with obviously big Keegan (Mellington) back in the side as well.
“Ryley was again at his best, while Darcy probably played his best game of the year; it was good to see some guys get their hands on the footy and get some confidence up as well.”
Taylor himself had another big game with 37 disposals, 11 marks and six tackles, with Ryley Hutchins having 28 possessions, Jack Fowler and Darcy Hutchins 22 each and Lachie Wareham 20.
This week the Bloods host South Warrnambool, fresh off an upset win over Koroit, at Mortlake’s DC Farran Oval.
“It will be a big game, South are coming off a good win and in a way they’ll be playing for their season, trying to stay alive in the five so it will be a fair bit to play for.
“They’ll be up and about, no doubt, but we look forward to getting back to Mortlake and seeing how we go, we’ve had a pretty settled side the past few weeks which has been good.”
The reserves match saw Terang Mortlake record a 7.7.49 to 5.6.36 victory.
